What's lovely about the venue is that the relaxed and friendly ambience attracts both Cypriots and non Cypriots. Its forward-thinking owner has managed to create a meeting place for anyone who likes good food, good wine and great design. The staff are welcoming and very much integral to the restaurant's heart. In fact some of them also perform as musicians with owner Stefanos at the Monday night gigs. “I love to sing and studied singing up to grade 8. I also write songs. Our band members are from the Politeia staff. That wasn't planned and I only found out they were musicians after they started working here. We seem to attract creative people!” There is a regular display of work from local artists who are encouraged to show their work at Politeia.
The restaurant and private rooms are also available to hire for business meetings, weddings and any other special occasions.

Probably the most trendy eating and drinking venue in Paphos right now. Positioned in an area which is fast becoming an upmarket and elegant corner behind the Town Hall and Central Park, the Politeia is set within a traditional 1920's villa now restored beyond its former glory both inside and out.

Its owner Stefanos, a young and cosmopolitan Paphian says he'd spent a long time looking for the right place in the most historical part of town. He got lucky last year after discovering this glorious 1926 building that now houses the Politeia. “I wanted to do something with taste and style and to bring to Paphos the type of café-restaurant I've seen on my travels in cities such as Athens, Budapest and New York. I wanted to create something very European".

It's clear for all who visit, that he has achieved that and more since it opened late last year. The stylish interior is something out of a Vogue spread with every detail decisively designer. The chandeliers have a modern twist and the Louise 15th style salon chairs add an elegant touch to the otherwise ultra modern interior.

Stefanos has been planning the opening of a unique type restaurant since he was 19 and started looking for the right building a few years ago. The interior design was done by a highly talented local lady - "one of the best in the business” he told us.
The name 'Politeia' translates into something like 'City of citizens…Heart of the City' and the square in which it sits was once the scene of a political protest in the late
1950's. An historic black and white photo of the uprising is printed on individual place mats to remind one that the area is steeped in citizen history.
Politeia is an effortless blend of café, bar and restaurant serving anything from coffee to cocktails to fresh cuisine. "At 2 o’ clock people are having lunch and at 8 o'clock they are having dinner and later, they are around the bar”. The menu is well thought out and the two top class chefs offer speciality steaks and local cuisine as well as home-made burgers, freshly cooked pasta dishes, jacket potatoes, homemade chips and a variety of salads. There is always a selection of local style home cooked dishes such as traditional white beans and black eyed bean stews, home made soups and Cypriot pies. For those with a huge appetite, there is the special 'mangas' menu - meaning macho man - dishes designed to fill an empty stomach all served with a bottle of local ouzo. The carefully chosen wine and champagne menu is both local and international and they will try their hand at just about any cocktail you ask for. They even have a menu with suggested wines that perfectly compliment a particular dish. They are also known for their speciality freshly prepared fruit juices which are made to individual order.
If you have a sweet tooth, their famous crepes and waffle deserts are a must. All served with delicious ice cream and fillings include either banana nutelle, white and dark chocolate or fruits of the forest. Truly sumptious.
